The toolbars window appears at the top of your screen after
choosing Window : Toolbars : All (Ctrl+Alt+F11)(you
must choose File : Level :
Middle or Professional for the Window item to be available on
the main menu).
The same option can be used to hide the toolbar window. The main function of this window
is docking the most important toolbars in SuperMemo. You may also want to call this window
up to get the typical feel of Windows applications in which the main menu and toolbars are
located at the top of the screen.
The toolbars that dock on the toolbar window
by default are:
- Tools (see the picture) - toolbar with
speedbuttons that provide one-click access to the most frequently used operations in
SuperMemo. This toolbar also hosts combo-boxes that can be used to change the current
category (left) and the current tasklist (right)(see below). In
the picture, the current category is E-Commerce and the current tasklist is Encyclopedia
- Actions - some other frequently used operations. Component
ClipBox on the Actions toolbar is used as the temporary
component cache that can be used in copying components). Script stop button disables
scripts (e.g. to stop a script than ran into an endless loop). Hints checkbox turns
on and off the hints displayed by buttons and menu options
- Time - date,
time and timer. Caution! You should never manipulate the date in order to
control the learning process! Use Tools : Options : Learning : Midnight clock shift if you
make repetitions after midnight. Date-picker will not allow of dates predating the first
day of the learning process
- Compose - operations that you will need to compose your elements by adding
components of different type (e.g. text, sound, image, HTML, etc.) and with different
properties (e.g. font, color, transparency, sound file, etc.)
- Edit - operations that you will need to edit rich text components (fonts,
alignment, bulleting, etc.) as well as some other editing options such as: copy element,
paste element, editing and dragging modes, etc.
The Tools toolbar
hosts the following controls:
- Category combo box can
be used to select the current knowledge category. This will
determine the appearance of newly added elements and the place
they will be added to the knowledge tree in the contents window
- Category registry button - you can open the
category registry, edit categories and choose the default/current category by clicking Accept
- Tasklist combo box can be used to select
the current tasklist. This will determine in which tasklist newly added tasks (e.g.
reading list positions) will be included. It will also determine the tasklist opened by
default in the tasklist manager when you press F4
- Tasklist registry button - you can open the
tasklist registry, edit tasklist and choose the default/current tasklist by clicking Accept
- Open collection - open a new collection
- Find elements - search for elements
containing a given string
- Classic layout - arrange windows in a
classic layout known from SuperMemo 3 (1988) with statistics
and the element data windows
- Save layout - save the current position of
windows for default use
- Apply default layout - restore the default
window layout
- Ancestors window - show a window with the
list of ancestors of the currently displayed element. To keep this window on screen,
position it conveniently and choose Save layout above
